June’s story

“Well Andrew, you have no idea what you have started here in Somerset.

I saw your messages about The King Lear competition and quite frankly thought “why not” and started painting away to send you not one, not two, but yes three paintings. Not masterpieces, but I was pleased with them, especially as I only started this malarkey ten years ago after I had retired.

Then, blow me down, I thought why not write a story and off I went, an idea came to me one night and two weeks later it was off to you. Unlikely to be a best seller but I was really pleased with it, the first thing, other than a report,  that I had written in 55 years.  Did I stop there?  Nope!  I am now 20,000 words into the first ever novel I have written, and am feeling pretty damned chuffed, my teacher daughter tells me it’s “ gripping” “she knows the characters and wants to know more.”

That’s all the praise I need and will be writing every day ( well maybe the odd day off) until it is completed by October. Why then? I hear you ask?  Well, I was going to do some research on the location in May, but of course was unable to travel to the highlands of Scotland because of the virus. We are now all booked in for October and I will be able to see the place of my words with my own eyes.

So, unfortunately,  no time for Limericks , but if you know a publisher who wants to specialise in first novels by an over 70, then send them my way!

In the meantime thank you for putting me on this path, I’m loving it.”
